Inspired by...the Sketchbook Project 2012

Sketchbook project, Brooklyn Art Library, pen and ink, doodle Signed, sealed and delivered. Just in the nick of time! My sketchbook is on its way to the  Brooklyn Art Library. If I can't be in NYC, at least a little part of me can. So, the good news..  there is still plenty of time to sign up for this years Sketchbook Project. I would highly suggest it. A very fun and inspiring community to be a part of. This year for the first time you also have the option of joining "The Limited Edition" group! Not only does your sketchbook 2012 get to live in NYC at the Brooklyn Art Library, but it will also be published! I want to be published!
Every contributor to the Sketchbook Project Limited Edition Vol. 1 will be included in a series of art books documenting the project. Together, the series will provide insight into the imagination and process of each artist participating in the project. Bound by the Brooklyn Art Library Press and hand-finished in our Brooklyn workshop, the book series will be published in the fall of 2012.
The bad news...last I looked there were only 700 spots left. That may sound like a lot, but considering they accept 5000, your time may be running out. Sign up here. Ok here is a little peek into my sketchbook. I chose the theme ~ along the line. I kept mine in black and white so I could pick it up anytime, anywhere and work on it. However, how creative you want to get with it is entirely up to you. The only restriction is size - it has to remain within the covers of the actual sketchbook. Actually I only had a few more pages. After discovering that the paper is a little flimsy, I tore mine apart and added my own paper. I may have missed a few pages...I am hoping no one counts. All in all pretty pleased. I made mistakes. I made discoveries. I enjoyed the process. I forgot to sign it...nothing...not even my web address. Still shaking my head... I am having a bit of a hard time parting with it, but I will see it again on its world tour! Dates for the World Tour are here. AND trust me, I will be using it as an excuse to get to NYC very soon!

Inspired by...alcohol inks

Loving my new Adirondack Alcohol Inks. [caption id="attachment_1710" align="aligncenter" width="1024" caption="spray...stamp..splatter"]alcohol inks, journal, art[/caption] Not loving the skull and cross bone Danger Poison signs pasted all over them. Would love to know how to use these, but unfortunately the instructions and uses are covered by First Aid treatment instructions. Supposedly the fumes are not only harmful, but may catch fire. "If breathed in , move person into fresh air" I could only laugh when reading that ...after an hour of using them. Oh god..maybe thats why I am laughing..who is going to move me? Of course I was so excited to get into them that I didn't take a moment to actually read all of  these warnings. [caption id="attachment_1711" align="aligncenter" width="1024" caption="stamping on canvas board..."]art, alcohol inks, journal[/caption] Nothing is safe from them. Have been spraying my art journal, canvas, daughters homework folder, newspaper...nothing is safe. Apparently I am not either! [caption id="attachment_1712" align="aligncenter" width="1024" caption="art journal page"]art, alcohol inks, journal[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1709" align="aligncenter" width="1024" caption="blotting...blowing...brushing"]art, alcohol inks, journal[/caption] I have tried them on paper, canvas board, canvas, cardboard...the ink takes to everything! Note to all ~ will also stain your counters, clothing and skin. The hazards of creating.....dont get me started on Cadmium  paint... Have fun with them! Always good to try something new.

Inspired by...my words

My words for 2012 word of the year I couldn't pick just one! There are three areas of my life that I want to concentrate on this year. Body ~ Mind ~ Soul Unfortunately I couldn't come up with one word that encompassed the big picture. Connection was close, clarity would have been better.I was in search of a word that would tie it all together and make it as one since these areas of my life are so closely entwined. If one falters, so do the others.. It was then that I decided to come up with a number of words and create a collage of relevant words just for me. While I quite like my collage of words, I would prefer one word so all suggestions are welcome. I know it will come to me eventually. journal, art , writing I have created this on the first page of my spanky new 2012 journal.Soon to be filled with notes, tidbits of inspiration, quotes, goals to accomplish, lots of writing...LIFE! It is close at hand, ready to be viewed when needed. My goal now is to break the areas of my life into smaller subsections and smaller goals. Body ~ health, fitness, diet Mind ~ creative curiosity, knowledge, clarity Soul ~ spirituality, family, community word of the year, christine kane The process....I am still working on it... Stream of consciousness writing. Discovering words that resonate with me. Words that have meaning in my day to day life.A plan of action. This is the year to tie up all of the loose ends I have created. art journal Lots of blank pages. Lots of art and writing to come... 2012 art journal Solvitur Ambulando ~ "it is solved by walking" Stretch your body, stretch your mind, stretch your soul.
Whatever you think you can do, or believe you can do, begin it, because action has magic, grace and power in it~ Goethe
