Feeling the love...Pinterest!

[caption id="attachment_150" align="aligncenter" width="640" caption="look what Michele from http://paperdollstudio.ca created..."]pinterest mosaic[/caption] It probably goes with out saying that most of you out there have discovered Pinterest. I would hate not to mention it though just in case it has slipped by you. Pinterest..ah...it is just one click away.. It makes me swoon and dare I say a little weak in the knees. One may call it an addiction of sorts. Pinterest is a virtual inspiration board. In Pinterests own words..... "Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests." You have to request an invite. It may take a few days, but a small initiation for joining your own little secret club of like minded souls. Bookmark "the pin" and start pinning. Form different boards. I have everything from abstract art to fashion my way . You can also follow other individuals  boards by simply searching for those with  the same interests. Every pin has a link back to its original source which can connects you with a whole other world of goodness...and more blogs to follow. Check out mine at  feeling the love... for pinterest This should give you a feel for what it is all about. Did I mention that is it free?

time and patience..

I am going to need to read this on a daily basis. My own personal mantra or pep talk. Time and patience are my friends. I know that I am not the only one out there who continually wonders "what the heck am I doing all of this for?". This now applies not only to my artwork, but also to my blogging! I feel like I have been struggling with this question for most of 2011. I spend hours creating. When I am not creating I am planning what to create next. I go for a walk to clear my head and BAM..more images to paint.I see images in my sleep. Its exhausting. I am feeling like a bit of a crazy woman. My studio is a disaster zone. I spill paint on the floor and I barely wipe it up. I leave my paintbrushes in water overnight. The cap stays off the glue. I dont even know THIS person!?  My poor children have suffered the wrath for less. I know that I should feel content having discovered my happy place, but the questions continue. Is it really possible to do all of this "work" without a game plan? I am tiring of my daily, left brain nudge, questioning why? I started blogging because I felt I needed to focus on a direction. It doesnt necessarily have to be the right direction.. A blog about art and inspiration could only add more happiness to my life. It would surround me, hopefully, with a collection of like minded souls. I am not committing to doing anything with my artwork, but lets say I am finally thinking to myself "self, lets make a go of this and see where it leads you." So the big beautiful mess continues. The blog will also continue to evolve. I am hoping that a theme will magically present itself... as always, any and all suggestions are welcome. I have a few ideas up my sleeve, but I need to consider them a bit more thoroughly before putting them out there. Until then I can only hope that I spark a wee bit of inspiration and hopefully encourage others out there to take a leap and try something new for themselves. Find your happy place!

The possibility of a big, blank page...

I have a wee bit of an obsession with blank books. I collect them, excited at all the opportunity that they behold, all the possibilities... [caption id="attachment_101" align="aligncenter" width="640" caption="endless possibility"][/caption] Blank, scrap style, books for cut and pasting - commonly referred to as "look books". Smaller blank journals for my everyday to do lists and hits of inspiration that I find flipping through mags at the local coffee shop. Then there is my art journal simply for splattering paint, pasting and generally getting my creative "yee-haws" out. I have many more sitting on my book shelf, bought because of a pretty cover or maybe a souvenir, just waiting for a reason to be used. I have thought about a journal just dedicated to inspirational quotes or maybe one just for favorite art work... Truth of the matter is...I am getting a wee bit carried away with my love of the "blank" book. I am drawing a bit of a blank as to what to do with them all... I need to find just one perfect go-to journal that I can bring with me anywhere...for anything. It has to be big enough so as not to feel restricted in my journaling. It has to be hardy enough to be pasted and possibly painted in. It has to fit in my purse (large purse!) All suggestions welcome! [caption id="attachment_94" align="aligncenter" width="640" caption="My house and home Inspiration"][/caption] These "look books" are very satisfying to make and a necessity in my world. I was forever adding a dog ear here and a sticky note there. For the longest time I just had trouble ripping images out of my magazines. No more! Now all of my inspiring images have found a home. Inpiration Board Searching the internet, I have discovered that people use look books for just about everything. House design. color combinations, recipes and personal style are just a few. A great spot to play with art ideas that you may be apprehensive to try on a large canvas....play with font, texture or just color combinations. A safe place to discover. There are a number of online resources to help you on your journaling journey. Some of my favorites are below: Pam Garrison at pamgarrison.typepad.com Tara Anderson at www.thepinkcouch.blogspot.com Dina Wakley at http://dinastamps.typepad.com/ Roben-marie Smith at robenmarie.com/ [caption id="attachment_117" align="aligncenter" width="615" caption="Art Journals to swoon over"][/caption] 1. The everyday journal that contains daily lists of things to do, jotted down material in need of remembering and coffee shop doodles. It is your mini inspiration book - the one that gets carried around in your purse just in case you come across that A'ha moment. Eye Candy!

I get very excited about inspiration boards! They are pieces of art on to themselves. [caption id="attachment_75" align="aligncenter" width="312" caption="Beautiful organic feel to it..Ditte Isager inspiration"][/caption] They come in all shape, size and form. 1. Untitled, 2. mini inspiration, 3. Desk, 4. inspiration board: treefall design They are randomly filled with little hints of this and  that. Tidbits of inspiration. [caption id="attachment_78" align="aligncenter" width="640" caption="A 4 ft square of ever changing hits of inspiration"][/caption] My inspiration board is rather on the large size, but thats how I roll. I seem to be able to find inspiration in anything...a.color, a line or pattern or maybe a composition My wee studio is filled with watercolor and acrylic paintings, canvas, paper and wood, handmade journals, beautiful paper and sewing materials...surrounded by many "how to" books. I rarely concentrate on one subject, but jump from one project to another. My inspiration board is testament to that. It is constantly evolving. Paint chips with favorite color combinations.Inspirational quotes, text and font. Artists I love. Textures, homemade papers and patterns. The magazine snippet of my favorite hair cut always has to be included! It all finds it space on my board...
