THE 100 DAY PROJECT 2023
Another year and another wonderful and very satisfying 3+ months exploring the creation of Art Journals. In keeping with the past few years, I approached this years gently. My life is busy and I know I work best in tidbits of time. Journals are an excellent opportunity to explore my mixed media techniques while applying them into a booklet form. These journals snuck into the final days of last years project so I knew they would be a great fit for this years project.
I started with Concertina booklets and then just sat back and watched my curiosity take over. One thing I want to stress is that this Project is for me. It doesn’t have a lot of rules and guidelines. It’s just me sitting down daily to create with an end goal in mind. I share my progress on Instagram, but I do not share daily….THAT is a project in itself!! (…just giving you full permission to approach it as you will;)
Paint and ink on canvas.
Collecting papers.
Patterning with different mediums.
Sewing paper bits together.
Pulling all the pieces together. Lots of little pieces made daily in short periods of time that all add up to a lot! It’s how I work best and something you may want to consider if you are planning your own 100 day project. Do what works best for you..
A few of my finished books in a warm color palette.I loved learning a few of the different binding options and am excited that I am just beginning because I envision many more enjoyable hours learning.
My favourite learning resources were:
Ali Manning of Vintage Page Design
Ali has a very fun and inspiring Handmade Book Club that you can join in, a very active You Tube channel and a blog! She has developed a nice community around book making
Nik the BookSmith has a wonderful YouTube resource. She is extremely generous with all of her book binding knowledge.
Willa Wanders Wendy is the Leader of Fodder School, an online community dedicated to Collage Fodder and everything mixed media. It is a wonderful year long community filled to the brim with lessons. I had the joy of being one of the 2023 Instructors and I have to say that it was one of the most inspirational and rewarding parts of my year. (If you want the full deal you can join in to Fodder School where you can learn all of the mixed media techniques to put into your journal:)
The joy about this project is that it actually never really ended… It just became a part of my daily art practice. It’s here to stay!
I have written a number of posts all about The 100 Day Project which you can read on my Journal page. I have also included my Tips + Tricks on this post.
The next project starts Feb 18th, 2024. All information can be found here The 100 Day Project.. It’s free, it’s fun and it’s a fab way to grow your art practice.
Start with 10, 20 or 30 days just to see where it takes you. It’s better to have made Something than Nothing at all. You may surprise yourself!
